Ideal‑eye is rooted in Lacan’s theory of the “Ideal I” and interrogates the modes through which we perceive the world. In this series, I employ the geometric principle that “all arcs derive from a complete circle” to hand-draw a multitude of arcs of varying dimensions. These arcs, when arranged and recombined, coalesce into eye-like forms viewed from diverse angles—symbolizing a mode of perception that interprets the world through geometric abstraction. The eye, in this context, functions not only as an organ of vision but also as an embodiment of mechanical aesthetics and geometric logic. Furthermore, the work continues a dialogue with Euclid, challenging the notion that nature can be entirely standardized or that human behavior can be completely codified through logic. The subtle yet profound discrepancies inherent in hand-drawn arcs serve to underscore the irreconcilability of “ideal geometry” with the imperfections of manual craftsmanship.
